The Smiler is a commonly occurring entity, distinct for its unique appearance and traits.
Overview
The Smiler resembles a glowing, smiling face with teeth and eyes hiding most commonly in claustrophobic and dark hallways. It has been found on almost every entity-containing level, making it a huge threat to new wanderers.
It is generally hostile, although reports of Smilers not behaving in their typical aggressive fashion have been noted too. It is speculated that Smilers have bad eyesight and only attack if they can clearly see the victim; however, this isn't confirmed.
Smilers can be found in the dark areas of many levels. In case of an encounter, disable all light sources, back away slowly, maintain eye contact, and do not run away.
Biology
The anatomy of the Smiler is a complete mystery. The only known attributes are its visible ones, namely its glowing smile, consisting of eyes and razor-sharp teeth. Other than these clearly observable traits, people can only theorize about what its physical form might look like. Its body not being perceptible to the bare eye seems to be the most accepted theory.
Reports of the Smiler’s appearance tend to differ between witnesses. The only known image captured of a Smiler is the one in this entry; however, wanderers also described its distinctive smile as differing in size, brightness, form, and sometimes even color from the one in the image.
